The European Commission

Hosts

It is with great pride and joy that WCIT 2010 announces the support of the European Commission to WCIT 2010, confirmed on September 9 2009, by Viviane Reding, Commissioner for the Information Society and Media. The Commission will participate in the further development of the conference program. It will actively engage in the detailed shaping of the various content tracks of the congress and contribute to the showcases being prepared for the exhibition. Furthermore the Commission will provide financial support and contribute to the Amsterdam Declaration.

For businesses, Governments and organizations from civil society, this creates a unique platform to discuss amongst themselves and with high level European decision makers the future of Information and Communication Technologies,  and their impact on the economy and society at large in challenging domains like climate change, energy, healthcare, and creativity and others. And particularly also how ICT can help the economic upturn: the digital road to recovery.

The Commission is presently working on the future EU policy plan for the information and knowledge society as a successor to the i2010 strategy. This plan is foreseen to be ready in spring 2010 and will be presented at WCIT 2010 in Amsterdam. The WCIT 2010 will be an official event of the future Spanish Presidency of the EU and is prepared in close cooperation with Sweden, Spain and Belgium to ensure continuity. These countries subsequently hold the presidency of the European Union in 2009 and 2010.

Therefore, if they want their voice to be heard and have first hand knowledge of future European Commission ICT policy plans, projects and other initiatives, businesses, Governments, and other organizations have to stand up, engage and participate at the WCIT 2010. The time to act is now.
