About Mr. Bryan Cruickshank
Bryan is currently Head of IT Advisory for KPMG in Europe. Bryan trained as an auditor and maintained an interest in financial sector audits through to 2001 when he was the engagement audit partner for a significant UK based life assurance client. He has been a partner in the Advisory practice for over 10 years and has a broad background in risk, controls, operations and systems related advice for clients, primarily in life assurance and investment management. In 2000 he created the firm's Enterprise Risk Management unit. Between 2001 and 2007 he was responsible for leading and developing firstly, the IT Advisory business and latterly, the Financial Sector Advisory business for KPMG in the UK. The Financial Sector Advisory team consists of more than 500 professionals providing advice on performance, finance, risk, regulation, IT and actuarial matters. He is now fully committed to serving clients.
Key projects Bryan has led include:
During 2007, a major transformation project covering unit-linked business processes, including box management and outsourced investment accounting and pricing process. During this project Bryan was advisor to the weekly steering group which was chaired by one of the Group Executive Directors.
For a UK based life assurance company provided guidance on establishing an enterprise-wide risk management framework. This work included support in restructuring the internal audit function including interviewing for a new head of internal audit.
For an international insurance group, facilitated the establishment of prioritised business risks and risk mitigation actions. This involved working closely with the group executive and business unit leaders.
Led a multi-disciplinary team to support with analysis and rectification of systemic unit linked pricing errors: accounting expertise in assisting with the fund reconciliations; unit pricing and tax expertise to recalculate unit prices; and, regulatory expertise to advise in the payment of compensation.
The life company of a UK Retail Bank sought to implement new unit pricing and box management systems. Bryan was a member of the project steering board and led KPMG's work in the design and implementation of business process and controls.
For a leading UK Life Assurance company, Bryan led a major engagement to analyse, document and revise core business processes. The project resulted in significant process changes and introduction of new control standards and a revised product launch process.
For a fund administration company, Bryan led a team responsible for providing project assurance and project office management information for a major business change programme involving the replacement of core investment administration systems, organisational restructure and process change.
Bryan led the UK firm's largest Programme Assurance exercise, involving more than 15 KPMG staff and lasting for more than two years. The work involved establishing a programme assurance function on a major systems implementation programme at a major UK utility company.
