Mobility - Award Ceremony

Innovation challenge on Water Management & Mobility

The Dutch Ministry of Traffic and Water, IBM and Dutch research institute TNO have organized a challenge, related to the themes mobility and watermanagement. Participants were students from Universities across the Netherlands, as well as young graduates from large international companies.

Participants were asked to come up with solutions that would help the Dutch metropolis of the Randstad (a conglomerate of large cities in the Netherlands, including Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague and Rotterdam) to stay safe and mobile in the next 18 years. This area, that is responsible for 70% of the year´s GDP, is below sea level and is experiencing large mobility challenges. The worldwide rising sea level and the ever growing traffic volumes might cause problems to this economic vital area. To the background of all this, the Netherlands is aiming to organize the Olympic Games in 2028. Such a logistic challenging event will demand a lot of this metropolis regarding infrastructure and mobility of goods and people.

All participants have issued their solutions. A jury is currently selecting who will win this challenge. The winner will be announced during the World Congress on IT, May 26th in Amsterdam.
