About Mr. Peter Veld
Mr. Peter Veld was appointed Director General of the Tax and Customs Administration of the Netherlands on 1 July 2009. Mr. Veld has wide experience in administration. He came to the Tax and Customs Administration from the Immigration and Naturalisation Service, a Department of the Ministry of Justice. As General Director of this Service, a position he held from 2003 to 2009, Mr. Veld was responsible for the implementation of the immigration policy of the Netherlands. During that time, he was elected Chair of GDISC, a network organisation of the General Directors of the immigration services of the EU, EEA and the candidate countries, which was founded on the initiative of the Netherlands in 2004.
From 1999 - 2003 Mr. Veld served as Deputy Secretary-General at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. Prior to this position he worked for almost twenty years at the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment where he began his working life in 1978 as a policy adviser, progressing quickly to various managerial positions. While Mr. Veld was Director of Market Services he served as Chairman of the UN Committee on Human Settlements (currently the Committee on Housing and Land Management) from 1996 - 1998.
Mr. Veld holds a degree in Public Administration, main subject political science, from the Radboud University in the Netherlands.
