About Mr. Derk Kuiper

Derk Kuiper is the Executive Director of the Water Footprint Network and in this role works with over 70 partners to further the Water Footprint with the aim to contribute to sustainable and equitable water use worldwide. Derk is also owner of Good Stuff International, a consultancy and business development company in the field sustainable development in the Netherlands and Kenya.

Until end 2007, Derk Kuiper was Deputy Director of the Global Freshwater Programme of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). At WWF he was responsible for advancing the development of innovative policy programmes, River conservation programmes and providing advise WWF's strategic orientation on Freshwater conservation globally including water footprint.

Derk is trained as a biologist with a specialization in Tropical Ecology at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Before joining WWF, he held the post of Executive Director of BioMedia, an IT company developing software applications for the biological sciences. Also, he was board member of the Biotopic Foundation in the Netherlands working on the conservation of sea turtles in the Guyanas and Western Africa. In his international role he executed action research in Pakistan in the field of irrigation management for the International Irrigation Management Institute (IIMI) and did his thesis in the Amazon part of Colombia. His international working experience spans a vast amount of countries in from Pakistan to Columbia and from Kenya to China.
