TNO

TNO is an independent research organisation whose expertise and research make an important contribution to the competitiveness of companies and organisations, to the economy and to the quality of society as a whole. TNO’s unique position is attributable to its versatility and capacity to integrate this knowledge. TNO is pleased to contribute to the track Energy at WCIT 2010.

During the past few years, TNO has been actively involved in research into the future of energy supply in the Netherlands. Our focus is on the interface between ICT and energy: the energy sector is rapidly becoming data-intensive as a result of developments such as smart energy meters, the growth in sustainable or decentral energy and, in the longer term, electric vehicles. TNO advises energy companies, network operators, the public sector and users on transitions to reliable, sustainable and affordable energy supply and the role of ICT in that context. TNO has, for example, advised network operators on the Vision for Smart Grids, research is being conducted into behavioural change and economic modelling, new services and service-provision concepts are being developed in cooperation with energy retailers, and TNO is closely involved in research into the Smart Power System. TNO is looking forward to participate in WCIT 2010, one of the most influential global conferences on IT.
