Deltaris is a Dutch independent research institute for water, soil and subsurface issues.

Deltares supplies state-of-the-art consultancy and expertise about water, soil and the subsurface. We are a leader in the development, diffusion and application of knowledge for the sustainable planning and management of vulnerable deltas, coastal areas and river basins.

Software
Deltares software users are equipped with the latest advances in the area of water and the subsurface. In the field, our software generates new research issues and produces new insights. That is why we team up with our users and research partners. The unceasing cycle of application and development means that our knowledge, as embodied in our software, can be applied more widely. We aim to provide open software architecture in order to facilitate combination with third-party software.

Integrating data, software and expert knowledge enhances the range of application options open to users. Deltares supports decision-making during flood alerts for example, with software that can predict high water levels and also predict flood patterns after dike failures. The consequences of activities such as evacuations also become clearer using software.

Partner WCIT
Deltares thinks it is important to show the world that there is a connection between water and IT.

Animation on view in the Dutch Pavillion
Global water availability is likely to be affected by climate change and population growth. A Google Earth animation, made by Deltares and the Utrecht University, shows where water scarcity problems may occur. The indicated change in water availability per capita has been analyzed for the period 1980-2090 with the use of climate data from the IPCC and population growth estimates from IIASA.

Modelling for megacities
Prof dr. Guus Stelling is giving a presentation about densely populated delta areas and the need for IT-information.
