Canada
Canada is the second largest country in the world with a population of 33.6 million spread over ten provinces and three territories. It is a bilingual nation with both English and French as official languages. One of the world's highly developed countries, Canada has a diversified economy that is reliant upon its abundant natural resources, its excellent transportation system and its innovative communications infrastructure.
Our innovations include the telephone, the Atlantic cable, the first trans-oceanic communications cable (telegraph), the first communications satellite, the electronic telephone switch (PBX) and advanced fibre optics. Now approximately 31,500 companies in Canada are in the ICT sector with some 600,000 employees; these companies generate over $155 billion in revenue. Canada is one of the world's strongest players in the wireless industry being home to a quarter of North America's fastest growing wireless companies. Canada also ranks third in the world video games market with 20% of the top-selling games in North America being developed in Canada. Moreover, Canada has a highly globalized infrastructure driven by a dynamic two-way investment process: it has a positive business climate; is a world leader in youth academic performance; possesses state of the art venues for scientific research and has sound financial institutions.
We are a proud partner of WCIT 2010 not only because it is the perfect lead-in to WCIT 2012 which will take place in Montreal, Canada, but because we believe in bringing the world's ICT community together to discuss current and future issues that affect us all.
